Mother's Day 2020, I wrote this, inspired by another talented friend writing one for "all the mothers in my life." It moved me at a time when the world had already experienced so much with Covid. I missed my mom and the rest of my family as we tried our best to be safe through sacrifice, hunkering down. We had no idea the rollercoaster we would begin later that summer with my mom's health.

One year later, Mother's Day 2021, the lyrics hit much different. I'm sitting in a room at Lutheran General Oncology, 8 Tower, continuing our families' walk through this nightmare. The cancer spread to her brain. She's unable to communicate. My partner Erin, my sister Lauren, and my dad, we helplessly have nothing left to do but to keep her comfortable as she slips away. Not sure how much time we have left with her. No one is guaranteed anything. We're all on bonus rounds. Love hard and hug your people.

This one is especially in her honor. Love you, Mama.
